The Dictionary of Needlework An Encyclopaedia of Artistic Plain

A great reference book
Sorry this is not spine-chilling, mysterious heart-pounding book. It is a dictionary. It is a needlepoint dictionary. A well written one. The language of the book is still in use today. This book was originally published in 1882, the pictures to go along with some of the descriptions prove that. The author is Sophia Frances Anne Caulfeild. A great addition to any needlepoint library -- whatever your needlepoint passion is.

Money used to buy this book could be used for something else
While I usually like Deborah Blakes books, this one was a disappointment. I thought it would give me new ways to practice the craft w/o spending money, but it didn't tell me anything I didn't know already or couldn't figure out on my own. I read this book in like 1 hour. That's how much information there was in there that I could use. Sorry Ms Blake, but this one did nothing for me.

Every woman should own one
I bought this book a few years back so I can do some repairs around my apt. My husband is not handy at all, so it is all on me. I love this book. I comes in so handy, I can't tell you how many times I've used this book over the years. My sister, who is divorced w/ 3 kids at home, was complaining one day to me about the work that needs to be done around the house & she had no money to hire & did not know how to do the repairs herself. So I bought her this book. She loves it! She still needs to hire someone to do her roof, but with the money she is saving on the DIY fix its, she'll have enough money to have her roof repaired in no time. Every woman should have this book on their shelf. I keep mine with the cookbooks, so I always know where it is.
