If only it covered modern dolls.
If you collect antique dolls, I highly recomend this book. Unfortunately, I collect modern dolls. If anyone knows where I can find a book exactly like this except covering 1950-1980, I would be thrilled to trade. It lists tons of doll manufacturers, tells where and when they made dolls. It also lists what kinds they made and any important history (such as a famous designer working for them). Then it lists the marks they were known to use. And it has pictures of the ones that are not simply words inscribed (and some that are). If you are interested in older dolls, you really should have this book.

Excellent reference for Barbie doll clothes.
If you have Barbie doll clothes, or clothes you think might be Barbie's, this book will be very helpful. It should be noted that the book does not mention the dolls, just the clothing. However, it lists every outfit made for Barbie during this time period. (see other volumes for earlier clothing) Nice photos of the outfits as well as a brief description of clothing and any accompanying accessories are included. It is not quite as descriptive as the first volume. But then the clothes aren't as detailed either. These series is truly one of the most effective collectables guides I have ever seen.

Doll Collecting for Profit would've been a better title
Ok. I collect dolls for fun. I generally pay around $10. for a doll. True I am not making money at it, but I think there is a middle ground between my way and this book. It has a chapter titled "Collecting for less than $200." (and this book was written in 1983) The chapter starts off with "...(people) ask if good dolls at reasonable prices are still available. The answer is yes -there are still good dolls available for less than $200." Who would have thought? Most of the book is on bisque dolls. There is a chapter on other types of dolls. It does not mention plastic or vinyl or even rubber that I see. They seem to even consider composition to be a risky modern fad warranting a mere paragraph. If this is the kind of collecting you are in to, then go for it. I have a copy I would be happy to sell you. But if you are a normal person like me, don't waste the money.
