A great 1394B external drive but be careful with Time Machine auto backup
Always wanted a Firewire800 (1394B) external drive as a backup and storage option for my Mac machines. A good 2.5" 1394B enclosure (without HDD) asks for $30-$50 usually. It may not be as fancy as those USB3 options, but Firewire800 performs more reliably and consistently, minimal 40MB/s write and 50MB/s read, not bad for a 5400rpm drive powered by 1394B port.
Drivers and utilities downloadable from Western Digital are somewhat helpful. However, they seem to confuse Time Machine quite often. You could avoid the problems by manually turning Time Machine on and off.
Caution: reading and writing massive data, 200GB generates significant heat, particularly when the HDD lying flat as WD designed and intended. A vertical position should be much better.

It smells
It has a strange odor. Not rubber, no plastic. The longer you hold it, the more repulsive it gets. And it stays on your hand for a while.
