in general, the references to an important time in US history
Dislikes:
Vietnam War ... good song, good concept, good message, lacklustre rhyming ... soldiers in the "Vietnam War" would be unlikely to be "spending time by the shore" ... They'd be more likely to be in the jungle or travelling along rivers, which have banks. Even if you wanna say river's have a shore .. you don't spend time by them, you travel up and down them shooting whatever moves along the banks ("Free Fire Zones") and if you do get out of your boat, you fucking better move your ass away from out in the open. It's not Normandy, its fucking Vietnam.
Manipulation is well written musically, and god be damned if i don't know what it's like to be fucked over by a manipulative woman, and i like the chorus ... "you can feel her madness" "watch out for her darkness" .. it varies which is coool ... i just dont completely follow the plot ... it sounds like this blonde broad was scheming for some guys money and he ended up dead i just wish i knew a little more of the story ... maybe the ambiguity isnt such a bad thing actually .... hmmm .. ponderous ....
the hidden track is pretty good, he says got got a letter from a friend whose fighting in the iraq war, ... then leter on we learn the friend is dead ... but then after the part when he says the guy is dead he then goes back to the chorus and says "and hes fighting in the iraq war" ... no hes not you already said he was dead so alter the chorus.. or not? i guess its a stylistic choice. ... i'd say he "was" fighting in the iraq war at this point but what do it know .... maybe i need some peyote, mushrooms, lsd and weed to reach the same plane of understanding ....
in all seriousness... this is a good effort, these guys went to college and had work and other obligations so i applaud what they've been able to accomplish at a relatively young age.
